The Forest Where Hope Died
Both albums were underwhelming..a few good songs of both albums..

Patience was dope and so was New Day..those are the only good songs to me off both albums..I guess I'll go with Distant Relatives since I liked Patience better than new day..

WTT was a status quo album with elite production and packaging.. Although it seems that people want to credit it as sometype of "pro black" album..Which in fairness when set up against the money, clothes and hoes rhetoric of some of Jay's previous work makes that knee jerk reaction understandable...It was weird listening to Jay big up the concept of more women of color getting shine, while Kanye shamelessly lusted after white womenz....

American Gangster was more "pro Black" than WTT imo...And definately more focused and cohesive...

DR was a forward thinking album that wasn't produced and packaged on the same level as WTT... Partially due to the lacking of sexiness and box office of the participants...Outside of a vaccum I think 30 years from now DR will have much more value..But then again, the way society is trending, who is writing the history and what we value, Chief Keef might be the Gill Scott Heroin of the current generation...

At the end of the day, DR didn't have no club bangers..In an era where the church and the club are the two most powerful institutions in Black America, that will be viewed as a negative...

Distant Relatives was a great concept. Overrated as hell by Nas fans who tend to overrate everything he's involved in. The execution was lacking. Patience was classic. Friends was cool. A bunch of other so-so tracks. The chemistry for that project was lacking and Damien carried the project resulting in a lot of Hip Hop heads being disappointed. I would like to hear a part 2 from them tho. Nas seems a lot more focused right now.

On the other hand, WTT, was underrated. Written off as glossy production and vapid lyrics by Internet reactionaries who hated it before they even played it, it turned out to be one of Jay/ Ye's most personal and concious projects to date. WTT has quietly dominated pop culture: movie trailers, sound tracks, TV & radio. If you're movietrailer didn't have No Church it wasnt shyt. Every track except Lift Off was great. I don't need a follow up to this unless they were gonna include more rappers.

I listened to both albums over the last 2 days. Distant Relatives is so much better, has plenty of songs better than anything on WTT. And I thought WTT was cool, had some very good songs also, but Distant Relatives was a deep, profound, great classic album.
