nyggas is so naiive with this "GO INDEPEDENT" shyt .. Drake wouldn't push 400 K independent for so many reasons ...

jazzy jeff ethers his whole point by saying

"drake got so much airplay without a label deal" ... dont he know a major was distributing his singles that got radio play?

smh

you think radio is picking up a song just cuz its catchy and playing it ... if there is no marketing dollars supporting that record .... the record could be as hot as FISH GREASE .. It wont get played.

Also, people need to realize that Drake was signed to a big management company (Wayne's friend) before So Far Gone dropped, and without that alliance that mix tape would not of gotten the push it had. They were working that tape at radio.

He was damn near obligated to sign to YMCMB when the time came. He played the game well, made all of the right networking choices and got to where he is through smart choices.

If he was on some 'F the industry' type shyt he would not be the same Drake that he is today.

Sure now he could but initially with out that big label backing he wouldn't have blown up the same or ended up on the same songs.

Doods overhyped this 'just go independent' thing like it is that easy. Like anyone of Drake's friends can do just as good of a job as a company who specializes in all of it.

This...

...and, do people really listen to radio like that?
I think the last time I straight up just turned on a radio to listen was when Ether dropped.

Yall nikkas already touched on the points.

But whats up with these hindsight is 20/20 nikkas. So because a major label blew a certain artists into a superstar, that same artists would have still seen moderate success had they been indie? Idk how you can surmise that?

can anybody show me an independent who sold over a million copies? if not, stfu

Major Labels makes you more accessible... major labels make you global...

sorry. I know y'all think dollars. But Drake is paid regardless.

Without that machine, Drake would probably have been done by now. He's able to stay in your face due to radio and labels

not about to argue this. And yeah, I thought Drake shouldnt have signed initially.. but I think the long run aint quite on the independent artist side yet. Not just yet.. maybe in a few years

u aint neva lied bout that....radio aint pickin up songs and addin it to their playlist just because.the radio directly dont accept money to play certain songs, but they have 3rd party marketing and promo companies they are connected with that accepts money to get artists songs played and its a label with good financing paying for those radio spins and radio campaigns.
