Pay the people you sample from :manny:

:unimpressed:

You cats are acting like the song came out in 2024.

It came out in 1992 when sampling laws were still a very grey area.

Wait , what :mjlol: I’ve never heard a producer so openly disrespectful and flagrant about sampling

This really makes you think about cases like blurred lines where it’s clear as day they sampled yet the big name still wins. This part of the game is clearly run by who’s got the bigger pockets

I think if he got caught in real time he'd have less of a problem with it. But sampling something damn near 35 years ago, and just now getting into issues over it due to the internet, is crazy.

Pay the people you sample from :manny:
Pay people for their using their work.

Yeah man....I dunno about his position here. I mean, it IS someone else's work, you really can't get TOO indignant about this. :manny:

I mean I get it...passage of time and alladat....but at the end of the day, it's still somebody else's work product that you access without permission.

Now the deliberate ambulance chasing....that's extra sorry. Pffft, don't get me STARTED on that. :camby:

Lol @ ‘on the internet’. Did you miss the part where they were awarded 600k? This the coli so that’s chump change of course :aicmon: But you’re not imagining that could be someone’s family who has nothing whatsoever to show from their grandparents artistry. Then you imagine that times 2, or 3, or 10, or 20. And that’s not hyperbole. The lazier hip hop gets the more people are sampling, and sampling over a sample, and disregarding the OG.

You also never know when your song will be sampled and for how big. Music is forever

Why are you cats so overly dramatic all the time?

Would you want to be on the hook for $300k based on a mistake you made in your 20's? He sampled and didn't clear it in 1992-1993. Sampling was the wild wild west back then, it's within the realm of possibility he had no idea he HAD to clear a record.

As far as the rest of your post, I'm not even sure what you're trying to say. Yes, it was "on the internet". He got busted off a sample site. This type of shyt is only possible due to the internet.

By 1992 the concept of sampling and clearing records was WELL known. His very own words ‘I finally got busted’. Stop it

Being raised on 90s Hip-hop I would've hated it if producers couldn't sample as much as they did back then. On the other hand, I want people to get paid as they should be getting paid.

All I'll say is that HH is an artform. And in every single artform you will have fans and I'll even say specialists of the artform who will try to discover the influences and whatnot behind a certain piece of art. Happens in litterature, in painting, in movies, etc.

cacs on reddit and forums do deep dives to find obscure samples of classic records. sometimes it's impressive like when they finally found the shook ones pt2 sample

the problem is the whosampled website. putting all that info on one site made lawyers go :blessed:

He's not against sampling... He's against those who rat out the sample because there are lawyers who read whosampled and watch these youtube videos only so they can make a living. they look up the sample then call the owners and say was this cleared, if not i can fight the case for you.

If the writers name is in the credits (means its cleared) then he has no problem

I am comfortable and I love you
I was always told if you don’t want your sample found chop it up enough that it never will be :yeshrug:

If you made a hit off a loop you probably should pay them :manny:

Regardless of how obscure or how much you chop something up someone will find what it is. The Hell On Earth sample took 25 years but someone found it. Even if its just for internet cool points, someone will post up a sample but it can lead to real consequences for the creators. There's samples I've found that aren't online but as beat makers and diggers, we're supposed to keep that shyt in our circles. Make the outsiders WORK for that just like we do.
