Just listened to a few cuts nothing in-depth it sounds ok Muggs needs to hop off the minimalist production :francis:

not saying it’s wack but this wave of picking samples and not chopping them up is getting out of pocket

I'm definitely ready for more variety.

It's a shameless plug, but check Khrysis' album dropping next month. There's a lot of guests ranging from early 90's to modern. It's an album for the jeeps. Hard, punchy drums, chopped samples, and bounce all over. No hazy loops. Lotta really dope emcees showed up for it. I hope it gets some attention on here.

Problem is, only a select few actually "get it"

Drumless beats from anyone not named Marci, Ka, Alc, or Madlib have a 50/50 chance of being dope.

That being said...I don't hate them, but I am starting to think they're being used as a bit of a crutch now. Just find a loop and get the rapper to rhyme over it so we can put this project out ASAP.

Wow! Haven't listened yet...

I'm a Flee fan and Muggs is one of my GOATs (No pun intended). But just looking at this tracklist #5 alone has me...

Yep! I was listening to a long DJ Muggs interview. He said that he already very rich! He has a lot of real estate and doesn't really need money. He is now mainly working for art and looks for artists that put a lot of consistent work. Muggs had a phase between 2008 to 2015 were he was experimenting. I believe he did an album with Tricky.
That's dope. Yeah, I respect that.

And pretty much everyone's favorite producers have multiple projects with rappers that most people don't consider elite.

Primo had Group Home and Blaq Poet.
Pete had INI and DZA.
Madlib had Strong Arm Steady and Guilty Simpson.
Alchemist had Domo Genesis and Jay Worthy.

It won't ever stop.

Guilty Simpson is elite.

They're definitely being used as a crutch. Another good litmus test is to listen to the loop and think, "If this wasn't produced by Roc, Madlib, Alc, or Ka, would I think it's dope? :jbhmm:"

Speaking for me, sometimes the answer is yes and sometimes it's not. I know if me or you dropped some of their exact same drumless loops on TheColi and asked for feedback, I wouldn't get the :banderas: smileys that some of these beats get from these highly respected producers. The beat should be able to stand on its own without the name of the producer attached to it. :hubie:

I'm actually pretty happy that Alc is moving away from the drumless loops. They're still there, but he's venturing into more live drum sounds like what @T.H.E. Goat and I were talking about. Madlib is doing a little less of them too. Up and comers don't realize you gotta see the train coming to get on it, otherwise it's too late.

I'm starting to feel :flabbynsick: talking about how I like hip-hop that bangs in the car.
