Yeah I'm pretty surprised. I thought Nas crushed this joint, and knowing the sample I think it was flipped very well.

Hard beats. Hard rhymes. Is it the best song they've ever made? No, but it's 2022 and it's fire to me.

Dawg, you know I make beats...it literally sounds like the entire low end was mixed out of the beat. Very hollow, especially coming from Premo, which kinda shocked me. Sounds like an unmixed demo. It's aight, but not something I'm dying to hear again.

Edit: I went to the original sample to try and make a quick example of how I would've prefered it to sound and I'm actually even more disappointed - Premo pretty much mailed this beat in, just looped two parts and didn't even change the drums aside from beefing up the kicks. No wonder it's mixed that way, as there's not much you can do with it if you're not even gonna add new drums

we finally got some dope Pete rock and Nas tracks on lost tapes 2. Even Rza and alchemist dropped some heat on there and nikkas was shytting on the album. shyts wild.

Lost tapes 2 is fire too. Not sure why people hate on that project.

Verses incredible. The beat was serviceable.

The best beat on the EP is actually Lettin’ Off Steam. I would have LOVED to hear Nas go apeshyt on that!

Oh for sure, and you're def one of the nicest cats doing it (tunnel gang fam), and as a cat myself that partakes in the trade as well I really dont think he mailed it in, now I do think the mix for the entire project is a bit off, but mailed in? Nah. It is a tribute to breaks and with a lot of those you can just let the original drums rock and spit over them. If it isnt broke why touch it up, plus a lot of Dex Wenzels stuff is already tailored made programming wise, very underrated producer all time in his own right.

Flip was cold imo and as you know that carries more weight with me compared to the technical aspects with the mix, sound quality and etc

In regards to the sample-- Mailed it in/lazy is this (although the overall song is dope which is very important, and like I noted Dex's work majority of the time you can let it ride out)





Compared to this its night and day as far as technical work

What kind of album do you think we would've gotten had BIG and Nas done a collab album over premo production? curious to see your take on it

Well I don't think that would of happened. Big and Jay was the only collabo album on the docket at that point. So I could see Premo doing a beat on "The Commission" Project. Matter of fact, Premo did do a beat for Charli B-More on her debut that sampled "What's Beef". By 97 Premo was still working with Big and NaS at that point. Now as we all know, Premo was slated to produce the "Gimmie the Loot" Remix and that was supposed to feature NaS and Biggie going back and forth but it never happen. Honestly, Guru, NaS and Big sounded the best to me over Premo. As for this beat......being that "Theme of the Planets" is a very popular sample, I thought Premo flipped it pretty good.

"Get us trending" but...do zero promo. Nas and Premo could literally walk into Ebro or The Breakfast Club today and get half a million views in a few days. And in terms of "but what if they don't want to talk about gossip" well...you can veto topics before the interview. It's easy, big artists do it all the time.

Nas has never been about interviews. I think he's a little more open to it now, but it took King's Disease and COVID for that to happen. His Breakfast Club interview was great, but I wonder if we would have even gotten it if it wasn't for the pandemic.

You notice how a lot of details were revealed about King's Disease, but it was scaled back for King's Disease II? I feel like that was by design. We still don't know how or why "EPMD 2" came about. And then there was no press run for Magic at all, besides that one interview Hit-Boy did.
