Im a big Quik fan and I have mixed thoughts about this project.
First off, highlights include Bad Azz, Straight to the City, Chachis Ride, and the title track. Im still having issues with Problem - he doesn't bring anything to the formula. When it comes to hooks, he sounds like a poor mans French Montana and thats not saying much. A couple of tracks I think he was alright but he's just not "sharp" as a lyricist.
Quiks production was solid, but I think the high points of a more recent album like "Book of David" surpass the highs on this album. I felt like there was a bunch of filler tracks and though Quik isn't the greatest rapper, he may have made this album better if he had more verses. Quik flows well on beats and almost has a Snoopesque charisma. His presence is always appreciated.
Overall, its good to see Quik focused and capable. I personally wouldve put Game on the Wiz track, and added another Dom Kennedy or even YG verse on Rosecrans. Ive played the album about 5 times through...and plan to keep it on rotation through the summer.
