DJ Quik - Trauma (20 Years Later)

The Compton rapper and producer released his seventh album on September 13th, 2005, via his own independent label Mad Science Records.

Prior to this, he released the Trauma Mixtape, a mixture of his hits and new songs, prior to releasing the album to feed the fans as his album was delayed while he was moving from Warner Bros. to Fontana Distribution.

The album debuted at number forty three on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, with 24,000 copies sold in its first-week.

To me, it's his worst solo album

Overly reliant on commercial features, no real sequencing gonna on

That said, it's solid - his sound was expanding a bit here

balance n options.. its like mausberg's death affected that nikka... he started trippin .. shootin slugs diana ross, smokey robinson .. marvin gaye tlc n tiny and kandy... and sisqo

 

[Reality Check]

1) Holy shyt at this album already being 20 ears old
2) They missed out on a huge hit with "Black Mercedes". The track with TI and the remix of Luda's song could have been singles as well
3) Damn shame that a Quik and Jodeci record first came out in 2005 instead of 1995.

I liked that intro joint - he went for the banjo AND a harpsichord

Agree that Midnight Life could be the worst but it still had glimmers of classic Quik (Puffin the Dragon, the joints with Suga Free, the one with Dom etc)that I didn't get feel Trauma
