:dahell:?Jay said it and alotta nikkas agreed with it at the time.

You forgot the part about "Two of them shyts doo,one was meeeh:patrice:,the other was Illmatic, that's a one hot album every 10 year average":banderas:

In Vlads defense he actually used the word "great" and not good, and I think he's the term great meaning classic.....I would give Nas two classic albums....Charlegmane pretending "I Am" was the shyt is just as ridiculous, and I liked God Son more than most people, but classic:childplease:?
I feel like you are right and wrong at the same time. Yes he said it, but its been 15 years since then and it seems pretty obvious to me that he didnt actually mean that. You are right though, people definitely did agree with it. Personally dont see how you could actually listen to It Was Written and think that though

Didn't watch but it doesn't surprise me. Most hip hop heads (white or black) over the age of like 37 have hated Nas for years.

Even Tax said it on his last podcast, the industry was trying to bury him before Ether. Stillmatic is when Nas became a favorite artist for "younger" fans

Why you say that?

this was a demo for his sophomore album before he scrapped the project and the decided to make iww for commercial reasons

questlove did this whole little passive aggressive thing about nas in his bio ... about looking at nas reaction to losing to biggie in 95 source awards and saying it destroyed nas whole identify

on the real was a demo from that album and cause marley or mega leaked it (i forget who)

nas never wanted to work with marley again

To be fair, it is one of his top 5 tracks. It's not an outlandish statement. Everything he said is ridiculous

I Gave You Power
Memory Lane
One Love
Live nikka Rap
If I Ruled The World
We Will Survive
Undying Love
Nas Is Like
Project Window (OG)
Blaze a 50
Durags
You're Da Man
Stay

Honestly... I couldnt knock anyone who had a Top 5 list that didn't include NYSOM in favor of 5 of those songs. that's not a knock on NYSOM. but respect for the quality of nas' catalogue. vlad said that shyt like it was indisputable fact. and to defend his benign-ass point. which is why vlad is a fukking idiot.

shyt, i'm sure if i thought a little harder i could add another 5-10 songs to this list easy.

I love this song..

It deserves to be acknowledged as one of the greatest displays of lyricism ever.
I'm saying. imagine the album coming straight off of illmatic, just attached with darker production and more introspective lyrics. That would have been a proper followup album.
IWW had the fingerprints of major label execs all over it, shyt didn't come off natural at all.

thats funny becuz i was just trying to throw pieces together, halfway bullshyttin, trying to make sense out of the situation, but the fact that dude actually made a conscious attempt to sell out and be a star makes it even funnier.

im sorry...but Vlad may have a point.

Folks like to forget...but Nas was damn near dead before Jay dropped Takeover.
Nas has a lot of good albums...but he doesnt have many GREAT albums.

How many Nas albums can you go through w/o skipping?
Can his CDs match up w/ Jay, Pac, Tribe, Cube, etc...?

No doubt he is a GOAT...but his albums do lack that classic holding.

I believe he could've meant it,just because I've heard so many people and now Vlad not like it for the same reason...After hearing Illmatic they didn't like the direction he took on It Was Written, content wise and production wise....I heard It Was Written before Illmatic so maybe that's why I don't have that hurdle to climb, matter of fact maybe that's why I don't get the big deal about Illmatic:manny:

It was Written is not the only album to get this treatment though, alot albums get hate based on a change in direction....I think time can make people get over those hurdles and appreciate a album despite that though.
