I remember I heard this like 20 years ago and was like
"Hardcore gangstas turn into Born Again Christians..." How did he know lol
Nine sounded gravely like that in 93, like he wanted to toast on a sound stage, back with "Six Million Ways to Die" on a Funk Flex tape. Back then DMX was more of a battle rapper/ depressed guy /storyteller. DMX is more talented than Nine, and you can hear it on his early tapes, but he changed his voice at some point and it did resemble Nine a bit. But BOTH of them were trying to sound more on some rude boy shyt, which was becoming more popular in NY at the time. I can see Nine calling out X over it, but it really wasn't about nothing. Their music and lyrics were different enough. Nine deserves more props in some ways, but he also never stood out on his albums, which were kind of generic. He had some dope tracks here and there but he doesn't compare to X, nothing besides a passing similarity with their voices.
