Ppl forget at one time, DMX was the biggest rapper in the world hands down. Bigger than Jay-Z in 98/99 by far. IMO, he's one of the last real artists in rap. His music had so much raw emotion that resonated with so many people that he was able to crossover while staying true to himself. His first two albums are classics and they dropped back to back. He's also a very underrated lyricist/storyteller...they don't make em like this guy n I can honestly say hes the artist I miss the most. There was no gimmicks about him and he spoke about real shyt. Also one of the best live performers ever, when he's not high :mjcry:

Ppl clown on him for his drug addiction but it's actually one of the most tragic stories in hip hop.

Word. I think it's very funny how people pick and choose who to clown about drugs tho. Drug abuse or drugs overall shouldn't be glorified, that's true, but alot of rappers throughout history
been addicted to heavy drugs. With X he was one that was quite open about it. What i like most about X outside of his music is his strong will to not conform to shyt just because its trendy or someone tells him to. I can relate to that even tho i'm a square and never done any serious crime but i guess i can have issue with authority depending on. With X he stands for what he stands for and does what he does and doesn't care about the other shyt, that i relate to and respect.

Some others i also share that with but some are gimmick-y with it and some haven't been as publicly out there about it or i'm just clueless about it. Wu Tang can be mentioned among that tho and i definitely love them too.

I wouldn't say "by far" Jay went 5x Platinum in 1998. But yeah DMX was the biggest rapper in the game from 1998 til the Marshall Mathers LP probably

You're right, Jay was HUGE...but X was even bigger, at least for a brief period of time. I'm just trying to put things in perspective for some of the younger posters who didn't experience it firsthand.
