I've always felt the urge to say "I don't have any spare change" when a white person stops to try and ask me the time or for directions

This happened to me once when I was like 18 and had just started a drywalling job. It was after work so I was probly looking dusty and had work clothes on and I said excuse me to ask for directions and the guy said I don't have any money and kept walking.
