Do black men hate their hair?

Do you hate your hair?

  • Yes I wish I had straighter more "manageable" hair?

  • Nah no self hate here, I'm cool with my hair.

This is a legit question to be honest. My hair is very nappy and I think it's cool as fukk when I don't comb it. It looks good. Like Michael blackson said about his hair, "my hair aint nappy. It braids by itself".

I've been clowned by other black men for having nappy hair. The same dudes would be talking about having waves, having that "good hair", having "baby hair" and shyt like that. The crazy part is that nobody talks about how the hair business aside from black women also capitalizes off of the self hate and insecurities more than enough black men have for their hair. I used to see a lot of ads in magazines geared towards black men about texturizers, putting hair straighener to keep it from being nappy, wave creams and etc. Even barbershops are just as bad. Folks never want their hair to grow or they'll be like "comb your shyt". Me personally, I would never comb my shyt if people weren't so fukking judgmental and had shyt against afrocentric features like the job market or society in general. People automatically assume that nappy hair means dirty or that you don't take care of yourself. It's sad. Society literally beats it into us nappy hair owners that our features are ugly and if you're a weak minded individual, you probably will end up believing that shyt. It also doesn't help that they literally say white or eurocentric features are beautiful and that's the standards of beauty.

Basically, white supremacy is in full effect and black people and nonwhites pretty much have to fight it everyday because it's pushed towards us 24/7 365 days a year. It's best to educate yourself to know because even some of the things that black people embrace is basically some white supremacy shyt.

Overwhelmingly....No....A lot of times, Black male self hatred manifests differently than Black female self hatred. So, you have Black men who have no problems with the texture our hair but, will find issue in that same texture in Black women...You have Black men who wouldn't feel the need to change their dark complexions but, would have obvious color issues with women whom share that very same complexion...But, Black men for the most part, adore our hair, especially this generation...In fact, I use to hate being forced to cut of my hair as a teenager.

This old generation's mentality is so twisted breh, it's not their faults tho, I feel for them:wow:

There definitely is self-hate, though it’s not as evident with Black men as it is with Black women; because there are less available options for Black men to hide their natural hair.
With waves I’ve noticed a fetish for more loose textured “good hair” as opposed to coarser hair (which I prefer, though which does make things a bit more difficult.)

I've always shaved my head since I was a kid so it's more of a habit, I hate having hair but it's not self hate or anything.
