i keep it damn near bald with clippers. i havent let it grow out since i was around 12. i feel nasty if it starts to grow out more than a centimeter.

Shaving/waxing can cause tiny cuts in the skin which can serve as entryways for bacteria & viruses. If you have to groom trimming is ok. Just not down to the skin.
