What's funny is that in some threads about Africa is that anglo-speaking brehs call french-speaking Africans "ccons" because they (we) speak french, obviously not realizing that english is as much a colonial language as french.
Anyways, yes obviously the language you speak frames your culture and how you view the world. Anyone who has read a couple of books about linguistics know that, as well as anyone who speaks multiple languages. That being said, language is a tool, so once you're aware of the way it shapes your mind you can fight against that, especially by exploring other languages and seeing how languaes are interconnected, thus going against the idea of your own language being "unique".
For example modern english is basically a germanic language with tons of french influence, and french itself has tons of influence from latin (obviously), greek, arabic, etc. Once you look into how languages are built you can't seriously believe in any concept of "exceptionalism".
But then you'll always have a George Bush saying that there is no french word for "entrepreneur", even though...that's a french word adopted by english
