my brother been a DJ for 22-23 years now, I always had love for real skills, making your own remix/blends, creating the right flow (knowing when and how to throw some old shyt in with the new, or how to create a cohesive set), scratching, etc. sorry, but all yall with your laptops aren't doing that.

they have midi controllers that behave like turntables these days :yeshrug:

at the end of the day, if the party is pumpin and you can control the vibe, you doin it right

you can do that from a playlist...Songza has it covered :yeshrug:.

edit: and the laptop comment was meant for people who basically use the most basic, preset controls to fade/mix-in a new track.

nikkas just want to the songs played in the club.

No one wants you scratching and shyt

False, people actually want to hear DJs scratching.....but you have to be skillful enough to blend skills with just playing music.

There's enough frauds out here that people value authenticity.

Pfft. It is easier to write a bunch of fukking rhymes than it is to successfully dj a set, smh. That isn't including juggling or scratching either.

And anyone who asks if DJs do anything anymore makes me wonder 1) where they live and 2) wtf kind of hip hop shows they go to
you gotta realize in this day in age, i can hit dc, club love, nyc, miami, vegas, cali and not hear ONE single scratch

nikkas don't even have records.. they pull up to the club, with a laptop, and proceed to play a playlist

then when you got a real dj in there at a place, the itunes dj will quickly underbid him and charge $30 a night, or free... just so he can brag online and get some p*ssy off being the dj at the major club

and this is coming from the mouths of famous dj's.. it's been this way since "push-button" dj's took over the mixtape game from cats who was doing actual scratching and mixing

Bears repeating.

So you think because you were a human ipod at a friends BBQ that DJing is easy? :mjlol:

You weren't blending records, you weren't scratching, you weren't transitioning...so you weren't DJing. You were an ipod my dood.
:manny: that's pretty much how it is now

And someone easily can go write rhymes like 'Im slappin hoes / blowin dro / killin foes / and when you put my song on, it goes' just the same...

Of course there are lazy/push button djs, It's not like I don't go out and know this. Happens a lot in Vegas where I spent a ton of time. There are tons of shows and parties where people DO dj though. Just because you see guys do layups at a basketball game doesn't mean it is easy to be a professional basketball player. Sure it's easy to just go out and warm up in a layup drill but that doesn't make you even a marginal NBA player let alone a good one.

Obviously there is levels to this shyt but to act like no one DJs anymore when theres 1000s of podcasts and live streams of them actually doing something....

:manny: that's pretty much how it is now

You obviously have a pretty good taste in music for where you were at breh, for bigger crowds it isn't all that easy to just pick the right records. More people = more tastes. Everyone assumes what they listen to is dope to everyone else, it isn't always  I'm sure you've been to see DJs who can't do it. For the record I wasn't trying to clown or anything and it's not like you are lying about how it is in certain spots.

I guess I'm lucky, I live in the mecca of djing (california)
