Nah they flopped. And at the time Dre was embarrassed.

Objectively they didn't flop. Far as the second part, that's because Dre is a crazy perfectionist which is why he shelved so many projects and spent 14 years and millions of dollars recording an album that never dropped

He spoke on how he was reinventing his sound and you can hear the seeds of the 2001 sound on both albums.

Biggest thing is he tried to go away from the west coast gangster content and that's what the fans wanted. Which is why he went from Been There Done That to Still D.R.E. Doesn't have as much to do with Eminem as you want it to

Am I the only person that liked Been There Done That? I think so

I was never mad at that song.

Dre woulda still been relevant, but lets not pretend that that he didn't ride that Eminem wave to get back on top. A lot of ppl ate good off that Eminem wave. It needs to be acknowledged.

No one ever thought Dre fell off, and Dre's cosign helped Em enormously. Em was not about to become a worldwide sensation without the Dre cosign. Infinite and the Slim Shady EP both didn't perform all that well. Dre gave him the stimulus package too.

Now Em definitely helped Dre too. Don't get me wrong. But it was a partnership. Em was on a couple really big song on 2001, and that album wouldn't have been as big of an event as it was without Em on it.

Dre and Em met each other at the perfect time

Yes, but that Em wave was a monster.

The Firm album is great but the sound just wasn’t consistent. There’s so many tracks cut from it and alternative versions that would have kept the album sounding similar throughout, that Untouchables sampling, mafioso, Italian, French jazz sound.

5 Minutes To Flush and the Trackmasters song just sound so out of place. 4 In The Morning is far superior to 5 Minutes.

Dre’s sound in the early Aftermath days is criminally underrated and under appreciated at times.
