It ain't that Lamar's a running QB, which is an outdated concept---->its more unique to have a guy under center who can't move now...
It's just the knowledge that this style of play has a short shelf life, it just does. Vick is the best size comp to Lamar, and really only had 6 good years in a 13-season career. And Vick, while not a Hall of Famer, is an icon and a legend for reasons we're talking about Lamar now, but think about that, by his 8th year as a starter, he was fading to black...
Fading in your 8th year, in a league where your average quarterback, guys from Vick's era, are now playing 16-20 years with ease. He was washed in half that time...
Even if you don't like the Vick comp, look at Can, who is much bigger than Lamar with a body more sustainable for NFL hits, and to be honest, Cam is basically Vick in a bigger body. His game is almost entirely the same...
After a hot start last year, which was Year 8 for Cam, he started fading dramatically, and has lost like his last 8 or 9 starts or something like that, with some truly embarrassing play in those games...
Year fukking 8...again where QBs have long sustained careers. Cam will probably be back, but "if" he has anything left it may be 1-2 good years, tops. He ain't gonna make it 15 seasons as a starter, not even close...
Now, Cam almost won a Super Bowl, and Vick led the '04 Falcons to the NFC Championship Game, so Lamar getting to and winning a Super Bowl is certainly within reason. Those two guys both got close...
But the window is small, Lamar is not gonna have the sustained career of his peers his age (Mahomes, Dak, Minshew, Baker, Brissett, Bridgewater, Goff, Garoppolo) if he doesnt change his playing style. Period...
So the organization understands this, and have loaded up cerebrally to maximize the small ~8 year or so window that Lamar can do this, can play the way that he plays. His passing is getting and will get better, I'm not sure a single soul will say he's an elite passer, though. Cam and Vick both made strides throwing the ball at times, but what makes Lamar, Lamar, is the same thing that made those guys who they were...
Ravens have an excellent chance to win the whole thing this year, and for the foreseeable 5-6 years, probably still will have an elite version of Lamar, so as long as they do, they will have a shot to win it all...
But this is pro football, defenses are gonna figure out how to contain and neutralize Lamar unless his playing style adapts. Not shut him down, neither Vick nor Cam could be "shut down" at their best, but when teams figured out how to contain them, there was different ballgame on how often these brothers went apeshyt on the opponent. Again the key for Lamar is to start subtly shifting away from the way he plays now into an elite passer, because the run threw, over, around people shyt has a short shelf life...
