While reviewing a recent comparison of the Nexus 5 and the iPhone 6, OSNews staffer Thom Holwerda raises some relevant points regarding the importance of specs on newer smartphones. He observes that the iPhone 6, which is brand new, and the Nexus 5 launch apps at about the same speed. Yes, they're completely different platforms and yes, it's true it's probably not even a legitimate comparison, but it does raise a point: Most people who use smartphones on a daily basis use them for pretty basic things such as checking email, casual web browsing, navigation and reminders. Those who use their phones to their maximum capacity for things like gaming are a staunch minority. Do smartphone specs even matter for the average smartphone user anymore? After everyone releases the biggest phone people can reasonably hold in their hand with a processor and GPU that can move images on the display as optimally as possible, how many other moons are there to shoot for?

Marketing is beating specs, and its the most retarded shyt I've ever seen. You mean to tell me that ppl can see on paper that there's phones out that have been better than the new iPhone for years, but those ppl still run out and get the iPhone? I don't get it

I could care less about specs. As long as the phone can have multiple apps open or websites open without stuttering i'm good :manny:

No and with phones/OS being totaly closed/integrated/optimized specs don't even dictate performace.

Specs are simply marketing tools and fanboy ammo at this point :manny:

Nope, apple continues to prove this and motorola tried to do this with the original moto x. All we need at this point is better optimization of the current gen internals with updated batteries. We've reached a point where almost all flagships have 1080 or higher resolution and internals that outdo mid range laptops.

For It To Matter It Would Have To Make A Huge Noticeable Difference

You Got Processors That Are 2 Seconds Faster And Cameras Where You Need A Microscope On The Picture To Tell The Difference, The Average Person (And Most People Unless They're Told Before Hand) Cant Tell The Difference

No it doesn't. Right now it's mostly about what ecosystem you prefer or what OS works for you. Any high end smartphone released in the past 2 years can handle 99% of the things thrown at it today. I'ts no longer 2009 where there's 200% jump in performance when upgrading form last year's phone, at best you'll be able to open facebook .179 seconds faster than your previous phone. Battery life is about the only meaningful differentiator as far as specs go today. From here on out the price to improved performance ratio isn't worth it. There's a reason why you still see people walking around with iPhone 4s.
