Was spinning this earlier:

Thinking about how everything is singles driven because you're only as good as your last stream so its all pretty much radio friendly. Back when some of my favorite cuts were the jams that fit the mood, tone and scope of album but were never made to leap up the charts as they had their own vibe and flex. Cohesive pieces of art that were often built around a single tenet, conception or expression.

Got me wondering if artists still make albums any more because it seems to be just groups of singles these days. It was quite amazing to hear these new jack jits don't even know what its like to listen to a project, end to end, as they pick and choose as and when. Its interesting, when you think about it, as it reflects the instant satisfaction/limited attention span era perfect as they'll never know how it felt to get a single, a review in the source, maybe a preview verse on the radio or a mixtape joint and then handing over your cash, ripping of the plastic, letting it spin as you read the credits.

Aural picture ish.

What say?

Stuff like TikTok has murdered attention span. That’s why the average song length is shorter today than back in the 90’s. Back in the 90’s, a song was about 4 minutes long. Now, songs are like a minute and thirty seconds long or two minutes long at the most. It’s going to get to the point where it’s like Demolition Man and the only songs are short corporate jingles. And to think that for most of our entire lifetimes it’s been a slow and steady decline. Back in the 70’s, songs were like 7-8 minutes long because they often featured lengthy live instrumentation solos. But the appreciation for that type of talent has been gone for decades at this point. And for decades, most classic albums were only about ten songs long and about an hour of music.

The lack of attention span is seen in everything now. It’s the reason why there are no good original movies anymore and only Marvel movies sellout because people don’t have the attention span to sit in a movie theatre for two hours watching a completely original story line.

It’s the reason why people are stupider and have no patience anymore, drive aggressively and way too fast tailgating everyone like they can only see a few feet in front of them like a bug only to see all the people they past at the damn stoplight over and over again. I’d bet a huge percentage of the population is nearly completely illiterate because they don’t have the attention span to read a whole news article let alone a book.

Man there is so much truth in this because I usually have the slow grooves on and you can tell the talent levels were immense in comparison to what passes for music these days as well as the fractured attention spans that inspired this missive.

Its wild that Idiocracy seems to be predictive programming in that sense because nobody can deny the collective is regressive and most couldn't care less...

"I wake up early in the morning, mind state so military, suckers fantasizing pictures of a young brother buried". :wow:

This is what puts Pac on a whole nother level. 19 words painted a perfect picture that hits you straight in your chest. Hold Ya Head may be him at his lyrical best as a spiritual miracle of a song that highlights the exact opposite of what people normally link with that concept due to its brevity and directness.

You could dissect the bars as the entire song is built so well with each leading and feeding the next in ways that continue amplifying the emotion to express his intent and urgency of capturing his message whilst still in this realm. Timeless. Immortal. Powerful. As valid now as it was then.
