Usually people on the software and data side make that type of money like data scientist easily pull in 100k to start in NY.
thats not saying anything considering the outrageous prices to live in NY.

Nothing really. lol

You can maybe get a few certs and finesse your way into an entry level gig on the Ops side. If you are trying to get on the Dev side though a bachelors is a must.

Finessing is my game :shaq: my job now requires a bachelors. Are there specific certs you have in mind? Are there certs for beginners?

Still haven't ruled out my BA either, just with working full time for all these years it's just been on the back burner. Gonna look into online schooling...

IT is huge, you need to figure out what YOU want to do or at least find interesting.

130k seems to be the ceiling in IT at least in the DMV. And that's with some stars aligned. It's usually those smaller IT contracting companies that landed a serious contract that will pay that.

You have to be the go to guru to get on a serious contract. Not no jack of all trades systems admin or engineer. You have to be the guy heading the implementations of all upgrades and major changes. You have to be the one that understands the entire IT infrastructure, not just network. You have to know how to resolve any issues fast. If they got to hire out and bring commercial help in. You aint getting 150k.

Dudes on here guessing and shyt. My boss makes that, no he dont. PMs and bosses are paid for totally different skills.

Nah I'm not in atl. So all I gotta do is look up ITS?

I have no real computer experience, but I wanna get in. You have any idea on where else I should look and how I can get my foot in the door somewhere with no experience?
Nah breh I don’t know that shyt. I really lucked into this job. They posted the listing in one city, then when I interviewed they told me the job was in a city two hours away.

I was working fiber optics. WATCHING cable guys, put up the new fiber optic network, for the state. My title was “inspector”. So my resume said fiber optics inspector. Listed all the things I had to inspect and do, which sounded a lot like computer fiber optics. And since I was inspecting, I must know the ins and outs. Hired. Same PM fired two years later for fukking employees and giving them high paying cake jobs.

Dudes in my office worked data security for Bank of America and shyt. But won’t leave this job cause they do nothing and get paid crazy for it. nikkas (we all black too) in there watching movies and doing school work and working on their side hustles. My boss blowing trees on his break and his boss knows. But nobody gives two fukks cause they all milking the state. So as long as we keeping everyone happy, nobody even comes in to bother us.

I will never find another job like this, but I will leave one day. I can’t get comfortable like these old guys. Sorry. Had a moment

Anyways intelligent traffic systems. This field encompasses everything from the help desk that state dispatchers have to call (us), to password resets (us), to monitoring the network for down devices (us), to calling up the field operators (us). Then you have the field operators who are also considered IT. They go out and fix the actual things we can’t from the office. Routers, switches, cameras, gates, signs. All on electronic network. Then you got guys who maintain the backbone of the network and all their operators and techs. Then the guys who maintain the software we use to watch the network. That’s a fourth contracted company. Cause the state wants no one company to be in charge of everything.

Like many have said. Gov contract work is easy money. Gov looooooooves to overspend. And they don’t know shyt so whatever you say they need, they think they need it too.

ITS is new. It’s just now being brought out into the market. So there should be a lot of jobs opening up in states. I know we are going to bid for Texas in a year. Eventually every state will do this, jobs everywhere. Luckily I’m ahead with 4 years experience, fiber optic and network engineering, and ITS all on my resume

Sometimes a strong resume will outrank certs with no experience. You need to get in now, even as a grunt phone operator, and move up from there

Yes 2 in web/app development .. but they own their own companies

I personally can't stand corporate executives because they usually "know everything"

I'll start anywhere that pays decent and then whatever certs I need I'll get. I just have no idea on what steps I need to take it what certs.

Breh I’m telling you. Look up ITS jobs. It encompasses so many aspects of IT from software to hardware to help desk to operator. You just look in your state cause it’s a traffic job. It’s not like some company website I can send you to

Look up ITS jobs in your state and see what is open entry level then try and talk/resumè your way up in there. That’s all I did man.
