A lot of it in my opinion has to do with the league not having Zone defense during these old nikkas era ... you couldn’t just sag two guys on a big who didn’t have the ball back then ...that would be illegal defense this rule change forced the game away from the bigs playing a back to the basket game and adopting to stepping out utilizing the faceup penetration/pop Game and also the long ball ...it allows the bigs more space to operate without worrying about weakside help ..if you notice non of the back to the basket guys are really volume scores like back in the day ...the Embiids the Cousins are the kind of bigs that put up numbers because their shooting keeps the defense honest... this is why guys like Jahlil Okafor unfortunately don’t get a lot of run and it’s why Vucevic adopted stretching his game out ...it’s quite telling that people such as Charles Barkley don’t get this concept ....probably why his dumbass has been begging for a Front office job for years and still can’t get on
