Do we need more black people in the psychology field or is that unimportant in the long run for black folks?

Yes, of course and in addition to this there has to be a concerted media type effort done to let black people feel okay with opening up. Having more black psychologists (at the doctorate and licensed level) will be useless if their clientele is only quasi-court-ordered. The market is already there for them but no one knows how to go about getting those people who need the help, way more than we'd like to admit (in the helping sense of admit), to get them to these Black Psychologists. Then! The ones that do help and are rooted in tradition, in my estimation are overburdened with clients because of the bolded.

Whoever the young black psychologists are, you need to be able to hustle!

For what, exactly? We talking just to be in the field and create Black guilds and be a force in it? Or to address mental problems in our communities?

If it’s the former, I’m widdit.

If it’s the latter, the numbers will never add up.. We’ve got way more people that need help than we’ll ever have people to treat them. We need to work from the bottom (Change our communities) rather than dealing with the fallout from it.

Both. I'd ask you this. How does one go about Changing something while dealing with people whose mental ailments can prevent change?

Yes, because white psychologists do not have the same life experiences. We also need to be more open to mental health services in general, because there are a lot of people in our communities who really need it.
I disagree. Fundamentally, our behavioral and mental issues are the same across the board. Regardless of race.

That white shrink can indeed break down your root causes just as well as any other black shrink who "understands where you come from".
