I feel like we do, but that won't really change until the stigma in the community is changed first. Some black people don't value it as a career because to them you can 'fix' your mental health by doing shyt like going to the gym
They do not understand the black experience and barriers to mental health care.I disagree. Fundamentally, our behavioral and mental issues are the same across the board. Regardless of race.
That white shrink can indeed break down your root causes just as well as any other black shrink who "understands where you come from".

It needs to be black psychiatrists too. White ones be over medicating and quick to label black folks violent.

What? No, man. It's much, much harder to reach a breakthrough if a patient is black and the shrink is white. It's harder because the experiences they each have are vastly different and that there is an internalized distrust of white people in positions of power, as would be the case in a therapeutic setting at first, in the black community. No, fundamentals are there, sure. But actually getting somewhere can take a shorter time if both people are black, it's just intuitive at that point.I disagree. considering that you have babies making babies?Do we need more black people in the psychology field or is that unimportant in the long run for black folks?
That's up to you to decide.explain for what reason in op so i can give a better answer.
For what, exactly? We talking just to be in the field and create Black guilds and be a force in it? Or to address mental problems in our communities?
If it’s the former, I’m widdit.
If it’s the latter, the numbers will never add up.. We’ve got way more people that need help than we’ll ever have people to treat them. We need to work from the bottom (Change our communities) rather than dealing with the fallout from it.
Both. I'd ask you this. How does one go about Changing something while dealing with people whose mental ailments can prevent change?
considering that you have mentally traumatized and unwell people making babies.considering that you have babies making babies?
Exactly....fix urself by going to the gym, manning up, getting some pusse, getting a drink, smoking a blunt, going to church (whigh I recommend but it isn't the same as therapy), etc.I feel like we do, but that won't really change until the stigma in the community is changed first.
