I'd say some do it for themselves, some do it for men, some for clout/money, and some do it to stunt on other women. If really depends, I think.

I wish somebody would write a think piece on the cosmetic decisions black women make re body augmentation, make up and weaves.
It's acknowledged that this stuff is based off european norms and not healthy for black mental health yet it's still widespread and supported by black women with very little of the early 2000s India Arie/Lauren Hill type messaging pushing back on it

They really need to do this or a documentary, I saw this live in person when it happened and in one of the ground zero locations but to see how women started getting their cues from trannies has always been head scratching to me, that early/mid 2000s where trannies were deforming themselves and doing this exaggerated womens look of ant bodies, colored wild hair, extremely long nails and eye lashes got passed down to strippers (who have known mental health issues) and then reality tv then social media gave those types a platform to advertise it to the masses. Now everyday women wear these tranny/sex worker uniforms like its the norm..
