I do coffee or drinks at a wine bar. I’ve also done ice cream and cheap casual restaurants.

If the girl likes you, she’ll have no problem with it.

The only ones who insist on going to a 5 star restaurant on the first date, are women who are not all that into you and looking to use you for a free meal, or to boost her self esteem and get some pics for instagram.

I'd ask someone to coffee, if the context was right. Like we are both getting coffees, and we just met. If we are in the same neighborhood and we barely met, I might ask someone to grab a coffee. It's low stakes, it's close. Sometimes 2 minutes is too short. Someone might be attracted, but they don't want to commit to a full on date with a total stranger, but you also don't want to just leave it there. So coffee, or a walk.

I've done coffee dates. I'm not a coffee drinker, but Starbucks and other coffee places got smoothies, teas, etc. I have no problem spending a ton of money on a woman who is MY woman, but someone I just met, nah.
