My dad got me into reading due to his love of comic books.
I have a pic of me, my brother, and 2 of my cousins, sitting with him reading comics back in the 90s.
it was fun way to learn too, because i started out just looking at the pictures. And eventually my interest grew enough that i took it upon my self to learn the words for added context.
Sadly my interest in comics had waned by the time i had my daughter, so her reading lesson were basically in the form of actual lessons and videos on reading.
but she picked it up anyway

Don’t have kids but some of my favorite child hood memories are my dad reading to me every night. Makes reading enjoyable and I was reading damn near daily until I was in high school.

One of the saddest and embarrassing things is seeing a fully functional adult that can't read or can't read above an elementary school level

Yes. Read to my kids almost every night. Also play classical music when they go to sleep.
Miles Davis Something Kinda Blue used to be the only thing to get my son to sleep in no time 😄 so random

and to add on to the topic he didn't let his kids even look at a tv screen until they were like 18 months. they don't have no tablets
two of them are twins though so i guess they just entertain each other lol

Feel free to drop some books with black characters, especially boys. We are reading chocolate me by Taye Diggs I didn’t know he made a children’s book and it’s a little c00nish but it’s OK. And a couple of other ones that we haven’t gotten to yet but soon I tend to do like one book every week and we just talk about different things or different pages.

I do sometimes. My girl usually reads to her every night. It’s cool that she finally stopped trying to eat the pages, now she just follows along.
