Get singles that are bangers and get booked for shows. That is the only thing that matters in this era. Billboard is not a factor anymore , trust and believe that.

I'm pretty sure it cost considerably less to make an album these days.
If this was the case the record industry would have been bankrupt.Nah. There's no way in hell.
"Enter The 36 Chambers" cost around $30,000 and went plat. Got each individual member of Wu a separate deal, and jump started Wu-Wear, and a multi-million dollar business for them.
Imagine trying to drop an album with $30,000 nowadays. That wouldn't even get you 1 beat or guest verse.
Fred.

The industry made a profit and expanded last year.Nah.
And the industry has been in a slow decline the last 10+ years. They'll never let it go bankrupt. That's why they introduced shyt like 360 deals.
Fred.

I think everything from beatmaking, studio time, videos and features are considerably cheaper
I think people on the coli are the only ones disappointed with record sales
There is no way that the record making business model has expectations and processes have not adjust to the market.shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit...

yeah, this is basically what I was getting at.of course they've adjusted but some of these dudes till floppin' hard as hell...
Chief Keef's contract only said he had to sell 250,000 by December 31st, 2013 & Interscope would grant him a 2nd Album... he's around 160,000-180,000 now & unless he magically pushes another 75,000 before the end of the year he's done...
Just as an artist like Big Sean was expected to sell 500,000 with all the money & promotion Def Jam has put into him & he's at 97,000 after 3 weeks...
Meanwhile Meek was only expected to sell 250,000 in his Contract & he exceeded it... J. Cole exceeded his... Wiz exceeded his...
A lot of these dudes are just flopping... but there's ALWAYS been flopped artists...
In 2013 the way the industry is built 1 Platinum artist can literally pay for the failures of 10 artists on the label...
yeah, this is basically what I was getting at.
