Dont hate her, but she does definitely stay in her lane. Nothing wrong with that, not all musicians are experimental(and dont have to be), they find their sound and run with it to the wheels fall off :yeshrug:

Does anyone really like Sade? Or do you just like her and the group because you are supposed to like her if you're grown and black (for whatever reason).

I get it. Sade Adu is well put together, light-skinned/mixed, and exotic. She's "mysterious" and the group she heads supposedly makes "sophisticated" music for "grown folks."

But seriously. All of that shyt sounds the same and all of it sounds like watered down smooth jazz (because that's what it is). If I've listened to one Sade song, I've listened to them all and none of it moves the needle.

On top of that, I don't understand the black solidarity. She's British/Nigerian and her band consists of white boys playing, again, Kenny G smooth jazz.

This stuff is fake sophisticated music for people who think sophistication is hanging out in wine bars and listening to smooth jazz.

No substance.

Why do you like this stuff?

throwing shade or side-eyeing sade is highly suspicious. a lot of people heard sade's music before seeing the woman, me being one. her music is as classic as anita baker imo.

and sweetback's first album was a classic too.

Smooth jazz is just cheap, inflexible, streamlined jazz. I don’t even know why you’re even mentioning it with a band like Sade. Just look in the mirror, admit your ears/taste is trash, move on, and be happy.

That's exactly what it is. Just a statement of fact, the least controversial thing I said.

You 100% don’t even need to have been a 70s or 80s baby to like Sade. Their music is timeless.

The fact this wasn’t wrapped up with just a NEG post shows how :flabbynsick: this place is becoming

I already figured it out but you just confirmed you weren't around in the 80's so that tells me everything. :ehh:

I noticed that you're just disregarding anyone who is engaging with you which isn't discourse. It's you seeking attention in a troll like manner knowing people will disagree with your stance.

Your breakdown which included race, ethnicity and your opinion about what type of crowd enjoys her music is limited because none of that relates to why I fukk with the music. But you're locked into your opinion which I disagree with so there's no more needs to be said.

I responded directly to you and gave an example. You're talking around it and discussing time periods. All of that is fine, but people act like Sade is something bigger than that.

A lot of the responses are some variation of, "if you don't vote for me, you ain't black."

If you don't like her, if you didn't grow up in the 80's, and so on. I didn't grow up with James Brown but I see and understand how influential and meaningful his music was. Same with Miles and Coltrane. Same with myriad other artists.

I don't see it here. I see people liking the idea of it more than they can actually point to why it's important or meaningful.

See what I mean, what does this mean? That's the shyt people just say, "timeless music."

It is smooth jazz and a singer who looks "exotic" and "mysterious."

If Adu looked like Caron Wheeler from Soul II Soul...
