I have been a firm participant in the head-nod.

but

So my pops who grew up in the Bronx back in the 70s/80s said in certain instances you gotta headnod.

He said at the infamous club TUNNEL in NYC that if you walked in and didn't make eye contact then you would be seen as scary and the wolves would try to get at you.

Me I like to mind my own but I believe he is right in that certain instances you gotta make eye contact or brehs would see you as scary.

I asked this because only the OGs seem to headnod or care about acknowledgment these days..and that thread where that dude walked between a Man and a Woman...probably could've been avoided if he made contact with those group of dudes before they approached.

Absolutely yes. I always try to acknowledge my brothers, especially in places where we are the extreme minority.

I drove trucks for a few years and I got so many stories of me and other brothers out in places with little to no black people, making eye contact () and giving the head nod, on some "I see you"



I do understand that all black people aren't built the same mentally and some of us have little to no racial pride, resulting in them seeing me more as a threat than a brother but it's cool if I don't get the nod back.

If I give you the head nod and you keep it moving like you never saw me, I assume you're on that type of time and somebody I probably wouldn't chop it up with anyways.

I only do the headnod when I’m in a majority non black area.

I had a friend who would headnod any breh he came across (he lived in a mostly white area). He was taking a trip to Africa and asked me if I had any advice for him. I told him not to headnod every black person he sees over there or he'd have a sore neck. He had a good laugh. True story.
