About reincarnation?
Dude, there are people who believe when they die they come back as plants.
fukkin plants, b.

I gotta be honest, I don't even know where to begin with this ridiculous "logic"

Who decides what people are reincarnated as?
How is this decided?

Let's say you die and you're reincarnated as a fukkin gerbil, what do you have to do as a gerbil to be reincarnated in the life after that to be a shark? Or a mushroom?

:mindblown::heh:

Well that's kind of the point. We don't realize how valuable being born as a human being is, a gerbil can't contemplate these things. The souls of lower life forms may have to endure a million deaths and rebirths before taking a human body again, so a gerbil, flea, worms, etc; are doing bids until they get another shot.

About reincarnation? I'm leaning toward believing everyone who exists today is a copy of their past selves spiritually but for some reason our memories have hazed. Not completely erased however, just not so readily recalled. I know that would suggest that there was some set amount of souls to begin with so how could there possibly be new souls being born? My response would be, that those who do not simply reproduce but find a soul mate (:sas2:) combine their essences to not only be reborn but add a new being.
Good, idea. I don't see why this is impossible. I'm not sure.

I had a dream last night and then a loud screech and light and blur interrupted it. Made me feel as if perhaps this life was only the surface of this idea of life. There are several magnitudes to life I believe

A friend of mine explained it like this. She said she believes that you're stuck in one life form, for example a mouse. You die until you find out how to survive, and then once you've died without being killed by another you progress to the next stage of life.

According to Buddhist principles, reincarnation exist, and the goal is to stop the cycle of reincarnation to the physical realm or the desire realm, which we inhabit. To move on to the next "level," one must achieve enlightenment, or the highest yoga tantra to stop the cycle of reincarnation. The desire realm is basically the lowest level, and the higher ones are the form realm an the formless realm.

There are 6 different types of existences, or types of beings in the desire realm. Gods, antigods, human beings, animals, spirits, and hell beings.

Gods (in a permanent state of exaltation, bliss) This is what happens when you free yourself from attachments, which cause suffering
Anti-gods ( Under the influence of hostility, envy, and jealously)
Humans ( under the influence of the 5 dissonant mental states; perception, attention, intention, sensation, contact awareness)
Spirits (Under the influence of attachment and unsatisfactory)
Animals (Under the sway of delusion)
Hell beings (Over taken by hatred, anger, and fear)

It is taught that you will keep coming back through reincarnation until you "get it right" If you don't ascend to the highest level in the physical realm to unlock the next levels, you can still be reincarnated to a favorable life by living righteously; but until you reach enlightenment, you will keep coming back.

Your past actions affect the present and your present action affect your future. This is the law of karma, on which Buddhism is heavily based. The key to true happiness is detachment. Attachment causes desire, which in turn will lead to suffering. Anger causes hatred. Pride causes arrogance, and ignorance causes delusion.

Nice explanation. I was just wondering if different planes of existance actually means different planets. Plane = planet :lupe:

If that is the case, no wonder war is so popular. Same murderous individuals coming back over and over that can't shake past conflict and even feel entitled to its continuation. If hell is a state of mind and a place on earth, it's on the battlefield, maybe.

No, you can be on a different plane of existence while on earth. You can achieve this by gaining knowledge of self. This is done by destroying the ego. This is what people mean by the phrase "becoming one with self." It is essentially destroying the duality. For example, the voice in your head, that is not your true self, that is the ego. The ego causes desire. That is step 1 in reaching a different plane of existence.

I look at this life as being similar to the "Danger Room" on X-Men.... Its all an illusion for training/learning purposes. We are all souls living in a human body for the main purpose of growing and becoming wiser and stronger while we are here. When your human form dies, your soul goes back up to the main room where you discuss whatever u learned and where you may have failed. Whenever you decide to go back in, your memory is surfacely erased then you give it another shot.

Once you have an Out of body experience, or astral projection you'll start to see life a little different then being born, working for 60 years, retiring, then dying...

I like this. I have no weed right now though, so I'll have to give you a rain check.

Yes, this is true. A lot of times an out of body experience is the catalyst that sets you on the path. They will make you look at existence in a different light. To anyone seriously interested in this subject, please check out this book.

It's somewhat of a difficult read if you are not familiar with Buddhist principles, but if you are looking for knowledge on reincarnation, there is a great foreword by the Dalai Lama that really breaks things down to simple levels. As you get further, the book gets a little more challenging, but there is a wealth of knowledge in it. This is one of the best books that I own.

@Dirty_Jerz Don't depend on weed to get into stuff like this. It will only inhibit you from learning what you need to learn. It's cool to smoke if you want, just don't use it as a crutch, especially when seeking knowledge.
