If I go back in the past, and I wear a different shirt on march 12 2012, does the president get assassinated?

Hell no. That's a small wave of energy that disperses. small details in life are 99% interchangeable.

Another example, lets say I stopped to have a conversation with someone waiting for the bus. Butterfly Effect might predict that conversation changes his course of action, so that he doesn't go to the army where he would eventually save someone from getting shot.

I dont see it like that.

I think that, if the conversation disrupted one aspect of his psyche, other aspects compensate until everything balances out. That motherfukker was about to enlist, period.

I believe everything has an effect. The degree to which small things impact life varies, but the impact is certain. One person wearing a hot pink shirt out in public will definitely distract someone long enough to change the course of subsequent events. Hell, I'll admit that while driving, I've been distracted enough by a fine woman walking on the sidewalk. I may have stopped at the yellow I otherwise would have driven through. There's no telling what other events may taken place for us to be in the same place. Now I'm at the light and notice a billboard advertising whatever, and so on...

Now if you're asking if all these events are predestined, that may be a matter of personal belief in free-will.

Nope. I believe in ripples in a stream. Things are flowing down a certain path and it would take a major dam-like structure to alter that path.

So while we may attribute a singular small event leading us to where we are today, we were on this path anyways, so any number of small events could’ve led us here. You’d have to disrupt core tenets to change one’s trajectory.

I believe in it, in a mechanical way. Like I walked outside in a red shirt but decided I wanted to change into a white shirt. Because I did that I got into an accident or something that I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t left 5 mins later because of the shirt change.
