The Christians started walking back on those dubious verses starting with the council of Nicea...in the 2nd century or so and finally abandoned them officially after the reformation in the 16th century ..but they couldnt delete them because the Jews had nearly all the OT suff..so translators could easily compare A big part of that middle Ages animosity between the papacy and Jews was in part due to a desire to control the literature..thats why the crusaders would burn libraries in every town...the Jews and the Muslims were preserving manuscripts they didnt want to get out.
