so i was on the LIRR coming from Long Island back to NYC, cause i was chilling with the cousins. this cac must have been bumping Illmatic or something but he was talking to another cac about Nas shyt and i overheard he said Nas was a great gangsta rapper. the shyt had me like....

cause to me Nas was never a gangsta rapper. he was more like Pac, they were both nikkas who were street poets. born and raised the streets but talked about various things and real shyt. i remember a young nikka on here had a thread like this on Pac and i agreed with what he was saying.

Naw not a gangsta rapper, idk what that even means though tbh because rappers have always rapped about stuff like his content because its a part of their life.

I wouldn't consider mobb deep gangsta rappers nor would I consider nwa or bone thugs. nikkas are entertainers who have great stories to tell and wanna share. I'm not even tryna go any further than the music with most MCs.

hardcore east coast rap is like a sub style of gangsta rap. NWA is West Coast gangsta in the way we think of TRUE GANGSTA RAP

I feel like you're really just making the distinction between East Coast Gangsta and West Coast Gangsta. like yeah you could call them different names but they're really very similar lyrical content
