Things that require a knife and fork, sure. Sitting down for a salad I already chopped up, no, eating some yogurt topped with fruit…no. If I’m eating a meat sauce over something soft like polenta, I may use a spoon, it’s easier.

But for the most part, things that require knife and fork, I cut up with whatever knife I was prepping with (washed of course if used on raw meat) before sitting down to eat at home. I also eat a lot of fish or seas food which is easily broken with a fork. We ain’t a formal household like that - setting the table, knife and fork, the good glasses (we have water bottles, barely use our cups)

Interesting, I’ve never seen anyone pre cut food before sitting to eat. Salads are usually quite chunky and I usually provide a knife.
I don’t know if it’s about formality, my dad just always gave me a knife and fork as far back as I remember, my entire extended family eats with a knife and fork apart from the odd greedy cousin.

Food tastes better hand to mouth

Unless it’s something messy I use my hands when I can

Oooh child the fancies came out in full force. Let me go ahead and put this plastic fork down from this plastic bowl of chicken and rice and get my ghetto ass back to work.

depends on how you prep your salads, my family likes well chopped salads, so you don't need a fork. if i'm making something with say, little gem lettuce where i prefer to keep the leaf whole, i'll use a knife while eating so i can cut it. i don't really find a need for knife and fork at home much, but i also don't eat red meat, so between seafood/fish which can be cut with a fork, and chicken which at home, i eat with my hands, i don't need a knife with me.

this is why I try not to argue with ppl online…imagine arguing with an adult who eats dinner with a spoon…probably holds it with a closed fist :heh:

I must have missed this thread when OP made it, but 💭 about it, I only use a 🔪 when eating steak or some foods that need to be cut into pieces.

I mostly eat with a fork. I also eat in reusable containers that were once frozen food containers or paper plates. I rarely use a porcelain 🍽 to eat. Oh, I also prefer to eat with plastic forks or 🥄 when eating.

It's a strange habit, but it works for me!

The knife is used to scrape the food items including rice onto a stationary fork. The knife does a lot of work. The fork keeps the food still so you can better use the knife to cut and is the receptacle that then transports the food to your mouth.

Imagine having to explain this to adults.

I’m clearly spending too much time on this forum.
