I just want to mentiom that the Chinese takeover in some NYC neighborhoods is insane. There was always the Manhattan Chinatown but over the years they've also turned Sunset Park, Bensonhurst, Elmhurst, and of course Flushing into Chinatowns. Sheepshead Bay is getting there too.

With this comes a very wide array of Chinese food, from several regions of China.

Americanized stuff would be like the takeout places that cater mostly to non Chinese Americans. I'm not an expert but the menus between the two places will look mostly different.

Its hard for me to understand the distinction because I always go with my staples. General Tso's Chicken, Fried rice, Egg Rolls and Lo Mein/Chow Mein (whichever one is the noodles). My palate would probably be shocked to its core if I tried something authentic lol.

Ex and I would go to a place way in Chinatown regularly.

They knew us so we got the “yellow” menu . Better prices and authentic food. Was always funny watching tourists and cacs get the regular overpriced white menus , while we chillin with the shyt they really eat cheaper.

It helped that the first time there, her Malaysian homegirl made the initial introduction

There is a good documentary on netflix called In search for General Tso, explains the history and difference between americanized chinese food and authentic chinese food. Basically westerners didn’t like how real chinese food tasted and their restaurants sat empty so the chinese adapted to american taste (sweet/salty) to get more business.

real chinese food is great but it’s overwhelming sometimes because of all the different regions. best to watch some food vloggers (asian kids) on youtube to find something you wanna try. they usually cover the safe/popular foods anyway.

off the top of my head favs are
xiaolongbao dumplings
peking duck
taiwanese beef noodle
cantonese wonton noodle

Honestly i dont want the authentic shyt they be eating. I dont eat at Chinese spots period anymore because they dont believe in throwing shyt out and cut corners when it comes to changing grease, and cleaning up. When i did eat chinese food i only ate the rice. The shyt they eat (dumplings, whole fish, seaweed, duck etc etc.) i dont like that shyt. I make my own shrimp fried rice without MSG, and i know its fresh. I can make my own chicken and brocolli. Thats pretty much all i used to eat when i was in my young and not giving a fukk about my diet days.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
I disagree, NYC has 5+ Chinatowns and most of the restauarants cater to Chinese immigrants and their children.

In NYC real Chinese food are usually the fancy spots in the city or spots in one of the 5+ Chinatowns plus the chinatowns have different Asian cuisines like Malaysian, Vietnamese, Thai etc.

I actually don’t eat much of real Chinese. I eat much more Vietnamese and Korean BBQ.

Where in Sheepshead Bay? You mean Avenue U? Cause that’s been a mini Chinatown/Vietnamese spot for years and I haven’t seen it spreading beyond its boarders to the levels of Bensonhurst and Sunset.

Yeah - that's the Chinese I only eat now

Chinese tea parlours are where the real stuff is served.

Love some dim sum, pandan cake, egg tarts, cheong fun, etc

I'm not super familiar with Sheepshead Bay but I wouldn't underestimate the Chinese people, they flipped Bensonhurst in like what, 15 years?

I think the Chinese will take over Corona too, as well as Sunset Park West. I would guess that it's Chinese people buying those houses and not Latinos.
