My fam never made a big deal about looks so I thought people were nice to me because I was a nice person.
Not that I’m incompetent in any way, but I had to sit back and realize that there was a reason why I was only promoted by my male bosses and men barely cared about what I studied in school; I thought everyone received offers to be a stay at home wife. I just assumed brehs were BS’ing me after a while

Then one of my uncles was like “No, you look good. You’ll be taken care of”. And one of my male cousins was like “Just stay like this and you’ll be fine”. I never understood why my family never complimented me, but were also so critical of my looks if I wasn’t on point.

I really never knew women weren’t properly courted. I really didn’t know.
