nope as long as they don't take completely over. Just like it shouldn't be a problem if blacks get in on heavy metal or country.

I don't mind what race wants to do hip hop or R&B just make sure you give us our props, that blacks are the founders/creators.

Don't do a rock music and just erase us from the history.
What is the proper way of doing that?

For all their faults and flaws, I will give the newer and younger generation this much. For the most part, they want to be colorblind, and go beyond race. So to them, the meshing and clashing of cultures isn't something that's important. Good or bad, its a new characteristic most share. Why the "urbaness" in Hip Hop and R&B isnt stressed so much anymore.

Like the greats said in the early beginnings pop was not rap, this was decided decades ago.

We look down on anyone being pop or using a gimmick.

For the record, MC Hammer is pop, and is not taken seriously. So why should we take Macklemore seriously?

This is like Adam Sandler beating Robert De Niro for best actor.

Nobody should have a problem with non-Blacks doing Black music.. The problem should have been with non Blacks owning and controlling it.. But that ship sailed decades ago...And we have been so happy to get crumbs as tokens that we will never get that power back..

Black music has been lacking leadership from the artistic and business side of things for far too long...

Nope as long as they stay true to the art form and not over stay their welcome I don't care what race you are. Especially if your making good music.
I bought Lord Steppington last week cause The Alchemist and Evidence made a damn good album and they should be rewarded with my money.

Don't have a problem with them doing the music, but the ease in which they sell (not really their fault whites are the majority)', get promoted, awarded, and become crowned as the face of the genre is sickening. Maxwell is 20 times the artists justin and robin are, and while he did get recognized, he'll never get the automatic bid that they will due to his skin color. Long story short, it's white privilege I hate, especially when it plays to the detriment of black people who created the field.

post somethin more than a clown ass smilie if you got a problem with what i said

my point was the history of racial injustice in this country skews everything even our views of who can legitimately do certain types of music

and rightfully so

the gatekeeper aspect is reversed like the earlier post stated

the whites doin black music should be seekin approval of chuck d smokey robinson stevie wonder and rakim etc...

So if a black man wants to open a pizzaria he should seek the approval of italian pizza chefs?

Better check wit the "gatekeepers" to see if it's okay to serve pizza with hot sauce on it.

If blacks didn't want other people messin wit hip hop they should have never left the block with it. :camby:
