Is there a positive future for Human and non Human Earthlings?

Besides roaches and rats, most animals suffer under our rule.

Human comfort is rising, but our mindstates are more unsatisfied.

The physical environment is now fighting us. Our activity has turned the very weather against us.

Every drop of water and gust of air is polluted.

Sounds grim.

Personally I believe Humans are the first intelligent species in the Universe and maybe the single ancestor of all other life across the galaxies.

As such. We will survive this. We will continue to thrive and expand. Until there's nowhere left to go.

The characters were depressed and one of them took the protagonist to a field that had been infested with locusts.

He explains that humans had developed all sorts of methods for eradicating these creatures and developed all manner of poison and yet they still remained.

Humanity is similar to the creatures(roaches, flies, grasshoppers, ants, rodents, pigeons) that have thrived as a result of human activity. Industrial society will collapse. Billions will die, but humans will still be around. Maybe it will be a max of 200k left, but we will still be around. What we are going to experience is a full system reboot. You may even see the traumatized children of the people who experienced this disaster outright banning technology advancing beyond a certain point and banning hoarding of any kind. You're immediately killed if you take more than you can ever need and deny the vulnerable in society the valuable resources they need to exist. They'll have a hardline approach to greed.
