Do you really save money going to Costco or Sam's Club over the local grocery store?

Got a coworker who swears by both of them and says he'll never shop at a grocery store because they "have so much deals" buying in bulk

I really haven't been in a Costo or Sam's Club in over a decade when I was a kid, and the one time my friends wanted to shop and I tagged along. I been thinking of getting a membership or whatever they require to shop there

Do you really save money buying items in bulk or is it a scam and not really much of a difference?

Depends on how many people you have to feed, Since I'm by myself I don't need bulk unless its practical like TP, paper towels etc. If I had a family bulk is the way to go

I buy in bulk off Amazon.

Depends on what you buy.

Sam's Club for me is better for conventional items since they stock more of that. Not as many unconventional things as Costco. Normal groceries from there in bulk that do indeed last and save me dough. Like I can get 50lb Jasmine Rice that lasts forever for only $30 or so at Sam's Club and it tastes pretty good. Costco one is more expensive and tastes worse, IMO. Also, there is a more varied fish selection and produce section at Sam's Club that I enjoy. Costco is a bit more rigid in what they offer throughout the season.

Lastly, the gas discounts alone are worth. I save at least the cost of membership over the year with either.

How are they with produce though? One thing I am hesitant with big bulk stores is that they are severely lacking quality of produce items

Facts. I'm a single guy that lives by himself. I got to Costco every quarter for for lean meats and spend around 300-400 dollars. Then I buy veggies, fruits and grains from the farmers market. I eat quality food every day and my budget is around 6-700 a month.

6 to 700 for one person…..? You must be buying the best of meats…….

Sam’s club is right across the street from me. It’s convenient. This is like folks asking me why I don’t go on base and shop at the Commissary. Drive 25/40 minutes, use gas, just to not pay taxes on shyt they’ve marked up because there’s no tax on it. Hard pass

I have a BJ’s:dame: membership but I don’t have a big family or anything. I bought a big ass case of toilet paper and I’ve had it for a long ass time. Getting shyt like deodorant and soap is great too because you know it’ll last long. Buying food in bulk would not be a good idea for me since it’s just me and the wife. We may buy certain things like drinks or snacks and shyt

I'm 6'5 and work out 6x a week to add context.i buy. A mix of regular chicken breast and drum and organic, shrimp, salmon bulk and one case of the highest quality steak they have. All my veggies and fruits organic as well. I don't eat out at all other than rare cases with coworkers . So that price is low given the context
