I’ve always stood by not engaging in fake pleasantries w/ people you obviously don’t like or get along with. Many associates have told me it’s “unprofessional”, especially as a black male, where they’ll critique anything you do or don’t. However, I’ve always maintained a professional disposition , never been outright disrespectful to said individuals...I just prefer not to engage unless it’s regarding the job. Apparently my friends were right in that these cacs tried to undermine/reprimand me every chance they got. Cacs will start to malfunction if a black man minds his own business and can perform the job light years better than them. It came to a point where I had to find a new position elsewhere because the bullying and constant undercutting became too much to bare. All because I refused to say “good morning” to a few fake, disingenuous cacs. I’ve been at my new position for a few months now and I haven’t had any of these issues yet but I’m assuming they’ll resurface once the novelty wears off. What’s your take on “professionalism” in the workplace?
