No, my mother would not allow me to say it and my extended family would rarely if ever use it. So it never was a thing to me. It does not bother me that much until i come across some one who says it every fourth or fifth word out of their mouth.

Actually it makes perfect sense. It’s all about context.

You know what context is, right?

if some random nikkas start fighting, do you rush to be a part of the action?

If your brother gets attacked and a fight ensues, do you mind your own business and leave him to fend for himself?

If you hear an Amber Alert, do you turn into Liam Neeson from Taken?

How is that shyt amusing?

Or do you laugh at movies like Hotel Rwanda but be mean mugging during a Chappelle special?

Do you just shyt your pants instead of going to the restroom that’s nearby? Do you stand in the shower with your soap but don’t turn on the water?

Even children understand context. That’s why they don’t go outside for recess to study math problems and don’t run and
play tag in the classroom during the morning and afternoon.

Rarely. Grew up hearing "brotha" instead . It wasn't until the early 90s that I started to hear it out and about.

Death Row made it "in" for people to say it. I grew up in Sac and around the Bay Area during the crack era. Never heard it then. My parents would've kicked my ass if I said it anyway. It was a very derogatory term to them.

I also grew up going to school as the token until the 7th grade. I wasn't trying to say it around the white friends I had. I didn't like saying the word already and it made me sound illiterate.

Today ironically, if its not in a rap song , or in a derogatory term (i.e. bytch ass nikka) I don't use it.
