Yeah it's surprising how many young women there are in Hostels, in Costa Rica me and this Bajan/Trini chick I met from Toronto ended up getting a private room together for a week, we had chilled together for a full week and it was the most natural move to get our own space. :blessed:

Had to stay in a hostel in Singapore for a month between places and then also in Tokyo for a few days on a holiday. One was with strangers, the other was in a private room. Not ideal but I had zero problems in either place. :yeshrug:

If you are visiting either Singapore or Japan I'd recommend staying in a hostel because (a) hotels are small and over-priced in both countries and (b) both countries take cleanliness very seriously, so the typical problems you might expect to have in a hostel - maybe its dirty, badly run etc - weren't a problem on my visits. Also if you are young and alone its by far the best way to meet people.

I can't speak for other countries though. I'd guess Japan/Singapore (probably Korea as well) will have the nicest hostels out there. :patrice:

Actually if anyone is going to Tokyo I can give you the address of the hostel. Nice, pretty cheap (for Tokyo) and there was a large spread of races there.

hostels are cool if you're in your early 20s. you meet a lot of other interesting travelers that you can socialize and network with. wouldn't recommend it if you're a bit older and enjoy your space.
