It never did in a sense but I had to deal with having a vocabulary built on three different fronts and 'dude' fell out of contention throughout the early 2000's in America and the Caribbean and It was never super popular in England.
Everyone was either a bloke, blood or mate or pal in The UK, a cat, Sucka, Cuz or brother in America or a 'pana= partner' , 'Collegue' 'muddaskunt' 'star' in the Caribbean. Saying dude past the 90's for a minute had people sarcastically saying 'gnarly', 'Tubular' and 'Mondo' sporadically for a minute on some aging ninja turtles shyt.
Now everybody says 'bruh' and 'fam' all across the board.
fukk it, I'm still repping Dude's and Chicks surfer dude impressions withstanding.
