Do you think any owners are possibly paying players under the table?

We always hear about so-n-so player taking less money to "keep the team together", or "restructuring" their deals, etc.
But what's really to stop an owner from just saying that for salary cap purposes, yet giving a player a huge cash deposit on the low every week during a season to make up the difference? Or just outright cutting them a personal check for whatever amount.

All of these owners didn't necessarily acquire their billions the "right way" :mjpls:, so what's to stop them from doing shady business on a even smaller level? And some of these players aren't the selfless individuals they're painted to be either, so they'd gladly accept.

It can still be doc'd for their personal tax purposes, but just not on the teams salary cap.

What do y'all think?

Probably
Jsually the dirk/wade types but probably not directly...people forget guys like gilbert own business such as fathead...qhats a few extra thousand from there as an endorsement to say a tristan thompson if possible? Probably more money in tristan hitting the open market but there is always a way for incentives

I doubt any major sports team would jeopardize their franchise in this day and age by doing crap like that. I do remember the Broncos getting in trouble back in the 90's for salary cap violations but that was almost 20 yrs ago. Today's environment is much different.

im sure they do. but i wouldnt call it paying players under the table. i remember when cromartie was having child support issues. the jets gave him money up front. so it could be issues like that. or maybe the owner might pay a players mortgage or something. i doubt they cutting players checks but im sure they would write a check to the company they owe.
