Do you think any owners are possibly paying players under the table?

Why would that benefit them? And that's too much money to move under the table unless they employ a team of money launderers.

Its not money laundering.

if Tom Brady takes $2 mil less to stay, what's stopping Kraft Corporation(not the Pats) from writing him a 3-4 random checks for a $500,000 dollars?

They still report it on their taxes, and it has nothing to do with the NFL.

Probably
Jsually the dirk/wade types but probably not directly...people forget guys like gilbert own business such as fathead...qhats a few extra thousand from there as an endorsement to say a tristan thompson if possible? Probably more money in tristan hitting the open market but there is always a way for incentives

I see what you did there.

im sure they do. but i wouldnt call it paying players under the table. i remember when cromartie was having child support issues. the jets gave him money up front. so it could be issues like that. or maybe the owner might pay a players mortgage or something. i doubt they cutting players checks but im sure they would write a check to the company they owe.

The Cromartie and Carmelo issue can't be considered under-the-table

Under-the-table = off the books and no tax collected and no documented record of the money exchanging hands.

If YOU knew Cromartie got the money then trust me the I.R.S did too

Old Brooklyn, word to @DPresidential
I'm sure they do things like get their family/people/wives made up gigs with the team or call in favors with other big wigs they may know. If the organization owns a network, they may even give their people on air gigs.

Highly doubt they can just pull out their check book and write checks for huge amounts of money. Pretty sure when a certain amount of money gets transferred, the IRS is automatically notified.

Didn't Brady get a big signing bonus when he took the smaller deal last time? Maybe that makes up for some

We always hear about so-n-so player taking less money to "keep the team together", or "restructuring" their deals, etc.
But what's really to stop an owner from just saying that for salary cap purposes, yet giving a player a huge cash deposit on the low every week during a season to make up the difference? Or just outright cutting them a personal check for whatever amount.

All of these owners didn't necessarily acquire their billions the "right way" :mjpls:, so what's to stop them from doing shady business on a even smaller level? And some of these players aren't the selfless individuals they're painted to be either, so they'd gladly accept.

It can still be doc'd for their personal tax purposes, but just not on the teams salary cap.

What do y'all think?

You live in a city where 2 of the pro sports owners are definitely doing this fam. :sas2:

It's possible, but I seriously doubt it. The risk level is way too high. The type of men who own sports teams are cutthroat as fukk and probably dreamed about being an owner for a long time, and it seems highly unlikely that they would put themselves in a position where a player could ruin it all over a few dollars against the cap.

Now, jobs after retirement or for friends/family, that's a lot more plausible.

Paying in gifts and promising a job after, these owners wouldn't risk their billion dollar franchise for a few millions
