Do you think having rappers/singers on social media has an effect on your perspective of them?

Is it killing the mystique or magic of the rap game, etc? Are they too accessible? Do their opinions and political or religious views that they share openly affect the way you see them, as opposed to when there was no Facebook or Twitter?

I think if the things they say on social media contradict what they say on record or even give some insight about their personality that you don't get from their records I could see it changing your perspective on them. That can be a good or bad thing depending on the artist.

I think it's great. I don't have to wait for 50 or Cam to make a song to enjoy some fukkery. I just hit up insta and enjoy the jokes.

To be honest it really affects their mystique. Shyt rappers use to go plat off mystique alone. Them getting on social media fukked all that up. I wouldn't mind if they just announce a collab or project they're dropping and keep it moving. Social media has made everybody a Q list celebrity.

Social Media can work for or against some as we see today. Criticism has arisen as it pertains to a couple of artists. Also think this shows a certain level of awareness on the person tweeting the tweets or something of that nature.

Def killed the mystique, I mean in general all the info we get is overkill to me. It's a lil different for me, because growing up in CAR and in France it was really hard to get info about US rappers, about new tracks, albums, etc...so we were hype as fukk every time we got some info...now it's "articles" about tweets smh. TBH I don't really follow rappers lives like that and hardly read most of their "updates" unless it's a new track.

100%

I used to believe these people were who they were rapping about...

Now I realize the people are the people they are rapping about, they are frauds (99% anyways), the realest thing about the rap game for the most part are the fans, not the rappers..

Rappers have become entertainers in my eyes.

Yeah I liked it better when I DIDN'T know all about my favorite rappers life.

Hell, my favorite rapper (Jay-Z) is notoriously (no pun intended lol) private anyways so it's all good. But social media has opened up the world for us to see our favorite entertainers/rappers are just as lame and wack as some of us. And that's no disrespect, it's just saying that I used to believe rappers and entertainers had this mystique, now I see they're just like me...and in most cases just a lil bit more money and a LOT more fame...

Good for some cats, others just need to stop it. It's given us a look into our favs like we've never seen before...and they can reach back out to fans (usually doesn't go well tho lol) like they couldn't before social media

not just the mystique-
but many people are simply not likeable
that gets exposed when they try to reach beyond the carefully crafted public relations managed by image professionals,
or when they try to make themselves more important than the entertainment product they are creating

just because your creative products or athletic endeavors are sucessful
does not make you likeable or a "people person" others will find sympathetic or engaging
it hurts to realize that
but some of these "celebrities" are deep in denial
