It depends on your beliefs, tbh.
If you believe in evolution then yes we're animals that evolved over many centuries.
If you're extremely religous then one would say no we're not since God didn't create us as primal creatures like other animals.
That said it's very hard to answer that question because while I don't think we're animals we still have the behavioural traits of one. Even as the most intelligent beings we still have primal instincts, we're still territorial, etc.

All living beings on this planet are classified as either plants or animals. If you're alive and not a plant, that means you're an animal.
Humans (homo sapiens) are the direct descendants of other primates. We're the most intelligent/senient mammals, but it doesn't make us any less mammalian.
