Do you think Obama speaking directly on Trump is just going to charge up the Republican base?

Obama and the Dem think tanks are going in for the finisher.

This is as close to a bi-partisan effort to dump this fool as we've gotten so far.

I agree that the goal is to bring some racist moderates left. Tall order, but it will at least provoke the fringes of idiots to say or do something self destructive. They always do.

the repub base doesn't matter anymore. i can see a fissure starting to form between center right repubs (who aren't the base) and the rabid degenerate racists who are his base. the white house insider letter is evidence of that.

dude won on the back of center right voters who couldn't stand hillary. and with help of his komrades who fomented as much hate/division as possible to push folks who voted obama twice over to the other side. who knows what else they may have been able to do. yes, i'm insinuating they may have gotten into vote tallies. but i digress...

i think/hope the larger sect of moderate repubs will see this experiment won't be sustainable. they got their tax cuts, deregs, and might even get roe v wade overturned. now time to get rid of the daycare center in the oval office before the 5th grader in chief fukks up something his fixers can't fix.

they're probably looking at obama's speech like "we almost forgot how an intelligent adult potus should be".:francis:

he should want no parts of a war of words or engage in a conflict of any kind with obama. he will lose really badly and draw a sharp contrast between him and obama.

i still remember blasting "my president is black, my lambos blue" during obama inauguration. thats still my president :to:

There is a good percentage of Trump voters aren't just fighting against Obama though, they are fighting against change, fighting against society progressing forward and you and i for having different skin color. Yes Obama definitely rallies them up but they was going to vote anyway.

:beli:@ Trump's "clapback" today though, using the same tired "that person is low energy" responses. Talk about being a one trick pony.

Hillary is the boogeyman of Republicans. They already played that card.

They may dislike Obama cause he’s black but that’s not the enough to make them vote like they did against Hillary.

They hate Obama every bit as much as they did Hillary, maybe even more since he's black and reminds them about how they're "losing the country".

You have to remember that Trump's rise was a direct result of hate for Obama, not Hillary. She may have been the boogeyman of the moment in 2016 but Obama was the boogeyman that got got Trump to where he was (let's not forget his birther crap which is what got him political attention even before he ran for office). It's a mistake to think GOP voters will be any less motivated by hate for Obama than hate for Hillary.

The only way for the Dems to win is to get their base to turnout and stop worrying about winning over imaginary "moderate" Republicans who will never vote for them anyway. They don't need to be worrying one bit about winning over Trump voters, they need to worry about turning out people who didn't vote in 2016.

.

Hillary (and Bill) have inspired a grudge that has lasted over two decades. The Obamas have never inspired several conspiracy theories that they had people murdered or running some vast conspiracy to destroy a country like Haiti and killed people for trying to expose them. Even after they left office the Clinton Foundation is still a clickbait attack for red state conservatives.

Barack has definitely been attacked personally from the birther conspiracy to general "monkey..etc" comments. But those are the things you would expect from racist attacking a black man.

Doubtful. A lot of them are ready to be rid of Trump. They may not be vocal as Trump's base but they definitely exist. The question is: will they sit out this election or vote Dem in the midterms and Presidential election?
I feel like this is a post for James Comey.

What’s amazing about that is I was totally oblivious to the depth festering hate for that man..

Doesn't really matter. Obama's role is to get people to turn out to vote for Dems. In many places, his voice and his popularity will be useful. I remember last year the GOP thought Obama campaigning in Virginia would help them... and look what happened.
Exacrly. This is always put in the frame of how Republicans will react . Why not care how it makes democratic voters feel. Democrats want someone who speaks to them, not always catering to Republican feelings.

entirely possible that trump doesnt win in 2016 if we had ran anyone else, notably biden. there were a TON of voters who would have voted biden in a heartbeat compared to trump

but it was her turn, and well :yeshrug:
Some said he couldn’t have won before when this was brought up. BUT knowing what we know now, he would be a super effective person against someone like trump
