Never gonna happen for financial reasons, plus too much of a headache for these companies to be all working together coordinating everything that needs to happen. Sony, Microsoft, etc all want their slice of the pie & they ain't tryna share.

Online cross-system play is much more realistic and actually seems likely to happen given recent reports out there

i think it would be cool if Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and even Sega, could pool all of their resources and just make a gaming device that is out of this world. There would be no more console wars.
