Do you think the movement for reparations is doing more harm than good?

I know I'm going to get neg daps for this but we really need to talk about this. :manny: The more I hear about reparations, the less I hear about all the programs available from the federal level to the local level to help people start businesses, buy homes, recreation centers, etc. I'm in the DMV area and there are programs where students can go to college for free. In Baltimore, John Hopkins had a job program where they even offered free rides to city residents and many didn't advantage of it. My question, why is there constant talks on reparations and not of the programs that's currently available? It appears more people are focused on the hope of reparations versus the reality of programs that's available today.

People should be more focused on a thing we don't have but need, than focused on a thing we already have.

Black people are taking advantage of those programs when they know that they exist. One suggestion to improve this thread is to link to some of these programs you're mentioning to boost their visibility to the Black people here on the Coli.

We don't even have an agreement of what reparations means to us. Some folks want $, some folks wants direct social plans and others want land and a mule. Unless we have a panel of folks and vote on shyt like a Teamsters union contract we won't see any progress.

If asking for reparations is doing more harm than good, it's because the democrats can't or won't do it. Is there anything the democrats can do for Black people? I already know the GOP won't do anything, but what can the democrats do? Not be quite as bad? Politics are cool and all, but we're investing a lot of time and energy into something that seems to be against us. Time to start looking outside of politics for any real change. Not saying don't vote. Just saying don't expect much. Don't just vote and then go to sleep. We need to set goals, and i don't think politics are going to get us there, but by all means, vote. I'm going to start looking into other things.

Are those programs specifically for Black Americans?
The majority of people who need them are black. I don’t get this reluctance to take advantage of help available, just because it isn’t exclusively for us. Are you expecting them to knock on our doors, and spoon feed it to us? We complain about help, but don’t put the effort into finding it.

We want all three...social programs...cash check and land and a mule.....but with ya cash check you can buy land...so that's a mute point.

Social programs and Cash Check.
